Richard Price, ami du révérend Thomas Bayes un des pères fondateurs de la probabilité ; deux ans après le décès de Bayes, soit en 1763, Price a présenté et fait éditer les travaux du An Essay towards solving a Problem in the Doctrine of Chances dans les Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London.
